Emulator

Newlook provides a dynamic option for modernizing existing IBM i applications. For some users however, the Windows operating environment, with it's focus on mouse control and a simple graphical interface, is not the preferred working environment. To cater for these users, Newlook Smartclient provides an option to switch view modes to Emulator view which provides an interface similar to the traditional "green-screen" environment.

The Emulator View is also available in the Runtime Client and can be a useful tool for developers as it provides an easy way to preview "before and after" changes.

BE AWARE:

Emulator View does not apply any saved overrides (logic, rules etc..) for the current screen, which means the graphically enabled view (GUI) could be different to Emulator in both appearance and functionality.

There are a number of ways to toggle the view mode and switch to Emulator view or back to standard view mode:

Click the Emulator View icon on the toolbar ().
Press Ctrl+E on the keyboard.
Select View | Emulator View from the main menu.
Start Newlook Smartclient using the -ve command line parameter. This will start Newlook Smartclient in emulator view mode.
Use a startup macro or script to set the View property of the App object to ViewEmulator.

REMEMBER:

Graphical overrides created using tools such as Designer and Identify are not displayed in Emulator View.
