Introducing the Newlook Suite

The Newlook Suite provides a fully integrated set of tools which can be used to create easy-to-use, multi-platform front ends for your IBM i applications.

Newlook Developer

Newlook Developer is the central development product in the suite, used to fine-tune and extend Newlook's out-of-the-box graphical interface. It combines all of your development tools into a single, integrated toolset. Core features include the Forms Editor (including Identify and Design), Logic Editor (Macros, Scripts and Web Services), Rules, Settings and Connections. These tools are used to create connections to your IBM i applications and configure both the look and behavior of the user interface. Also included in Newlook Developer are dedicated runtime clients which can be used to preview your application as it will appear to your end users in Newlook Smartclient, Smartframe or Newlook Server (with any of your installed browsers or mobile devices).

Most of your modernization work will be done in Newlook Developer and deployed via one or more of the following deployment clients.

Newlook Smartclient

 

Newlook Smartclient is the traditional desktop deployment option available to Newlook developers. It provides end-users with access to your host applications within your custom UI/UX solution. It supports a rich graphical interface and features such as emulation mode, type-ahead and keyboard buffering.

It can be deployed as a standalone executable (SmartClient) or running embedded within custom HTML (SmartFrame).

Newlook Smartclient is best suited to typical business end-users who may benefit from personalized settings, advanced UI controls, desktop integration, web services consumption and database access.

Newlook Server

 

Newlook Server is a web-based deployment option for html and mobile clients. It provides end-users with zero-deployment web access to your IBM i applications within your custom UI\UX solution.

This option is suitable for companies looking to deliver zero-deployment access. Server has support for HTML5 and RPG Open Access, along with CSS styling to allow for full customization. In addition, it is possible to integrate any number of disparate applications with web services to present a unified, web-based interface to users on any browser.

Newlook Server Add-on: Web Services

This add-on provides support for web service creation. It enables developers to package application functionality into callable web services which can be published with Newlook Server.
