About Overrides

An override refers to any custom change that overrides a host screen's default appearance. They are applied to Newlook's automatically generated interface (GUI).

There are two types of overrides; Host forms, and Rules both of which are stored in the Dynamic Design Repository (.sid file). Rules are applied globally whereas host form overrides can apply to one or more screens, depending on the host form's ScreenID.

To view the Rule and Form overrides that are apply to the current screen, click the Display Properties icon () located in the bottom left corner of the Smartclient or runtime client window.

Overrides are most commonly required for applications that differ from IBMs CUA design guidelines—Newlook's default recognition standard for GUI generation. Other reasons for creating overrides include the implementation of graphical standards for your application or the creation of additional functionality.
