About Subfiles

Subfiles are used to display lists of information on your IBM i application screen. Subfiles are most commonly associated with large lists of information displayed a page at a time, e.g. customer orders, payment history, invoice line items etc.

Newlook's equivalent of a subfile is the grid control. When you connect Newlook to your host application, Newlook automatically recognizes and translates subfile information based on your Dynamic Design Repository settings (or sid file) and the contents of the screen being displayed.

NOTE:

If your host application differs significantly from IBMs CUA design guidelines, then you may need to implement a number of subfile overrides to assist the recognition process.

Identify can be used to re-categorize subfile headings and data to assist the recognition and creation of grids in the GUI.
