Border Recognition Rules

Use Border recognition rules to define patterns used to recognize popup windows in host applications. Popup windows can be created for standard and non-standard windows when a matching pattern is recognized as one of the specified border character sets.

By default, Newlook maintains a list of commonly used border character sets. These characters are used to recognize the edges of host application pop-up windows. However, if Newlook fails to recognize a host application pop-up window you can override Newlook's automatic recognition by identifying the pop-up window area.

You can access Border recognition rules by selecting Rules | Borders from the developer bar. Borders will be applied in the same order as they are listed in the Border description window.

Characters

Each border character set consists of exactly eight (8) characters. The first three characters represent the top left, top edge and top right border characters. The next two characters specify the left and right edge characters. The last three characters specify the bottom left, bottom edge and bottom right characters. Any of the characters may be the same

How to define a new border character set

  1. Select Rules | Borders from the developer bar.
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. Position your mouse in the top left corner entry box and type in the character that is used as the top left border of your application pop up windows.

  1. Repeat this for all remaining entry fields. As you insert characters, the sample screen will update. Use this to check that the characters you have entered match the characters used for you host application pop ups.
  2. Once you have finished entering the correct border sequence, if required, use the Up and Down buttons to the right of the Borders description list to reposition the new rule in the list of border recognition rules.
  3. Click the Save button () to save your changes.
