Screen Identification
Hints and Tips
- Hover over a screen element to view an element's current category.
- Identify only the elements
you wish to override.
- If you wish your overrides
to only apply to a particular host screen, identify multiple screen elements unique to the screen, or the whole screen,
as the Screen ID, otherwise your overrides
will be applied generically.
- Identification is the process
of allocating a Newlook category
to a screen element. Newlook allocates
categories dynamically-implicitly, however you may use Screen Identification
and Filters to explicitly override a particular elements category. A simple
example is to explicitly define an element as a Subfile Heading if it
was incorrectly implicitly recognized as a Field Prompt.
- The 5250 data stream sometimes
contains additional "padding fields" that Newlook attempts to recognize, sometimes resulting in superfluous output controls
displayed in the GUI. To remove such fields, use Identify to select the
padding field, then right-click and categorize as Ignore.
- The Newlook recognition engine transforms the data stream sent to the workstation.
The actual content of the data stream can vary dependent upon settings
in the controlling host program. For example, the "green screen"
known as Order Entry may appear differently dependent upon the customer
type, standing orders, promotional offers etc. The controlling program
conditions the display of screen elements accordingly. The result is a
single Order Entry screen may take multiple forms. To ensure your intended
Identify overrides have the desired result; it is strongly recommended
you view the various forms the screen can take before determining the
appropriate overrides for each.
